Could there be a sweeter symphony of autumnal flavours than a home made, fresh-from-the-oven, apple pie?
Perhaps not, though our latest creation, Apple Pie Granola, is a strong contender.
With a base of hearty jumbo oats and crispy puffed millet, the nostalgic aromas of brown sugar and treacle impart a caramel-y warmth. Sweet cinnamon bark (ground here in house) and clove to balance the luscious sweetness that a careful drip of Monin syrup imparts throughout, further grounded with pieces of earthy walnut.
The best apple pies contain the 'chunks' of apple, and so, for this granola, we've used pieces of soft dried apple rings, toasted in a little cinnamon to hold their place amongst the oats.
For a final textural twist, we baked sheets of crispy puffed amaranth with treacle for clusters of 'bonfire night' and added them to the... fresh-from-the-oven granola.
We love this one, in any which way!
